How to Donate Books

Friends of Shaker Library

Thank you for considering us as a recipient for your donated items! All donated items will be sold in our two annual book sales, which raise funds for Shaker Library programming for all ages, including Summer Reading.

What can I donate?

We accept:

Coffee table books
Antique or collectible books
Adult fiction and nonfiction
Children's and teen books
DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks
Puzzles and games with all pieces in tact

We cannot accept:

Textbooks
Computer or technology books
Reference books
Magazines and vinyl records
Travel books older than two years
Books in poor condition that are musty or missing pages

As a general rule, if you wouldn't buy it, please don't donate it.

Are my donations tax deductible?

Yes, books donated to the Friends are tax deductible, and the Friends will provide a receipt upon request. However, we're prohibited by the IRS to assign a value for the donation.

How do I donate?

You can drop your donations off at Main Library Mondays - Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Park in the Library Staff and Deliveries parking lot off Van Aken. Bring them to the door marked "Deliveries." You may have to ring the bell or call the phone number posted on the door.

A strong community is based not only on the strength of its city, but also on its school system and libraries. The Friends of the Shaker Library are the enterprising group that helps sustain the library.
