Explore, design, create, and innovate. Whether you are sewing or block-printing, bookbinding or digitizing, you can tell your story in the Creative Spaces.

 

Orientation

Before using the Creative Spaces, a brief orientation is required that will acquaint individuals with the procedures, equipment, and software. Orientation may be attended in small groups (register online), or booked through an appointment with an Tech Expert. Use of the equipment is expected to be self-directed.

 

The Workshop

A place for Crafts & Hobbies & Possibilities. From sewing to jewelry making and book binding to block printing, you will find the equipment and programs to help you craft your story. 

 

The Tech Studio

A professional-grade collection of technology, equipment, and tools intended for creative, exploratory, or practical purposes. Access the Memory Studio for digitizing old photos, slides, and film; Use the audio mixing equipment for laying down and editing musical tracks or podcasts; and Graphic Design software to create artistic designs for business or pleasure.

Terms of Use

Shaker Heights Public Library policies, including the Code of Conduct and Acceptable Use of the Internet, apply to all library property and the use of library equipment.

Customers are expected to use the Creative Spaces responsibly and respectfully. Please share the space and equipment with others and maintain a clean and organized work area.

Before using the Creative Spaces,

  • Customers must complete the required Creative Space Orientation classes that will familiarize each customer with our procedures and equipment.
  • Read and understand these Terms of Use.
  • Sign the Creative Spaces Release and Agreement (parents of customers under the age of 18 must sign the release and agreement).
  • Present a Shaker Library or other CLEVNET Library card in good standing.

Terms of Use

  • Customers must sign in with library staff each time they enter the Creative Spaces (Tech Studio or The Workshop).
  • The use of some equipment may require additional orientation or training.
  • Young children are the responsibility of the parents or caregivers and may not be left unsupervised in the Creative Spaces. Adult supervision is requested for all minors as the Creative Spaces contain potentially dangerous tools.
  • Use of the equipment is expected to be self-directed.
  • Staff cannot design, make or complete projects for customers.
  • Customers are responsible for saving their digital work to personal storage devices or cloud services.
  • The library is not responsible for the loss or damage of personal materials, projects, or digital files.
  • Customers may reserve equipment by calling the library at 216-991-2030 or by visiting the Tech Hub desk. Reservations are for 3 hours and may be extended by 1 hour if equipment is available.
  • Customers are responsible for turning off equipment, putting away materials, and cleaning their workspace before leaving.
  • Food and drink are not permitted in The Creative Spaces.
  • Customers may not use the equipment for projects that are inappropriate in a public setting or that create a disturbance.
  • Customers will follow all applicable intellectual property laws, including all copyright laws. Customers are responsible for obtaining their own protections for any intellectual property developed in the Creation Spaces.
  • Shaker Library reserves the right to halt, delete, or disallow the creation of items that violate library policy, including illegal items.
  • Supervision by library staff does not constitute knowledge, or acknowledgement, of the final use of any product created, nor of the lawful status of said products; Shaker Heights Public Library specifically disclaims any knowledge thereof.
