Equity and Inclusion Policy
The Equity and Inclusion Statement below will be incorporated into the Mission, Vision, and Values of Shaker Heights Public Library:
We welcome, value, and seek to include people of all races, ethnicities, cultures, religions, socioeconomic statuses, ages, visible and invisible disabilities, political and social viewpoints, housing statuses, sexual orientations, and genders. We continually strive to provide equitable and welcoming access for all members of our community and staff.
We demonstrate commitment to the principles of equity and inclusion by:
- Working to create a library in which everyone can find themselves and learn about others, including by:
- Implementing programs and services that reflect all of our community and world.
- Developing a diverse, inclusive collection of library materials.
- Fostering an environment in which everyone feels welcome and supported in their use of the library, including by ensuring our facilities and resources meet the needs of all of our community.
- Creating a respectful and inclusive workplace environment in which all staff can feel empowered, valued, and supported.
- Prioritizing best practices in equity and inclusion as we continuously evaluate, review, and revise policies, procedures, programs, and services.
